  1. I guess runes aside, Vikings weren’t great readers or writers so Norse mythology and fact easily merge and who's to gainsay the mystery. Having recently visited Norway, it seems being a Viking in summer was probably OK, but surviving winter must have make them all round tough guys and gals. We immediately think of fierce warriors and mega-babe shield maidens, but I guess Vikings were mostly farmers, tradesmen and fishermen trying to get by in the tough environment they found themselves in.
