ReplyDeleteIt was all due to a friend of mine mentioning the Baedeker raids which Bath endured for 2 days in 1942. Most of my historical novels are set in Bath but I had not heard of these bombings and when I started researching, I wanted to know more and more. Book 1 is an introduction to the main characters and the bombings start at the very beginning of book 2.
DeleteI love this era of history. It is so fascinating. I have been to Bath and was amazed by its architecture. I cannot imagine what that must have been like to see such a beautiful city bombed. War is never the answer in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteIsn't Bath wonderful? I am lucky enough to live just a short 30 min drive away and visit regularly. I went on a guided tour of the Bath Bombings as part of my research and was amazed by how much evidence of those two days can still be found on buildings and in the streets. Terrible...
DeleteI have a book that was published not long after the war that documents in photographs the damage caused by the Blitz. It is a very sobering to look at all the photographs and see how much damage was done.
