The start of a BRAND NEW historical series from Rachel Brimble
September 1941, Bath – three friends are about to find that some of the biggest battles are to be found on the home front…
As war rages and brave soldiers returning home from the frontline need nurses more than ever, fiercely proud redhead Sylvia Roberts is determined to help in any way she can. In spite of her mother’s belief she isn’t good enough, Sylvia believes that becoming a home front nurse is her calling.
Together with the two friends she makes on her first day in the job – Freda and Veronica – she knows she can help save lives. And, as the devastation of war shows no signs of ceasing, their work becomes ever more vital.
Then Sylvia’s life is thrown into the path of a man who might just be able to capture her heart. Even though he is somebody who everyone – except her best friends – seems prejudiced against. Can love really conquer all, in times of war?
One thing she knows is that – in the dangerous days that will follow – she and her friends will all need to support each other right to the end…
This is going to be my next read on KU. Your book sounds really good, Rachael, I can't wait to read it.
ReplyDeleteThis makes me sooo happy! I hope you enjoy it :)
DeleteI haven't read a historical romance novel in ages. I am going to head over to Amazon now to right that wrong! I am really looking forward to reading your book.
ReplyDeleteThat's great news, Jamie! This is book 1 with book 2 coming in Feb - hope you fall in love with my girls as I have :)
DeleteAlso, if I may ask. What inspired you to write about this era of history?
ReplyDeleteIt was all due to a friend of mine mentioning the Baedeker raids which Bath endured for 2 days in 1942. Most of my historical novels are set in Bath but I had not heard of these bombings and when I started researching, I wanted to know more and more. Book 1 is an introduction to the main characters and the bombings start at the very beginning of book 2.
DeleteI love this era of history. It is so fascinating. I have been to Bath and was amazed by its architecture. I cannot imagine what that must have been like to see such a beautiful city bombed. War is never the answer in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteIsn't Bath wonderful? I am lucky enough to live just a short 30 min drive away and visit regularly. I went on a guided tour of the Bath Bombings as part of my research and was amazed by how much evidence of those two days can still be found on buildings and in the streets. Terrible...
DeleteI am so glad to see The Home Front Nurses. My audio book club are looking for a December historical romance read. I will be suggesting this book to the club members.
